Artist Trading Cards

5th and 6th Grade MST Artists made Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) and one of their very first assignments of the year. We discussed layering different materials, and trying new ways of handling every day materials to make mixed media collages.

The results were one of a kind! These cards were such a success, we traded them with another Elementary school in Ft. Worth. Each student received a different card from an unknown artist. You can read more about their experiences on our blog's "Artist Trading Card" page.

  1. Directions:
Find your ATC below and answer the following questions about your new card.
Use complete sentences and correct spelling.

    1. What letter and number are assigned to your card? (Example: 3C)
    My card’s code is 8A.

    2. What is your reaction to this card? What does it make you think of?
I was shocked when I saw this card because of the emphasis on the center flower. This card made me think of an exotic forest and an ocean because my card seems to focus on nature, trees, rain, lots of water, and flowers.

    3. If you were the artist, what title would you give this ATC? What evidence led you to your conclusion?
I would title this card The Flower of the Ocean’s Forest because there is a giant flower in the center of a watery forest.

    4. What does the work tell us about the artist who originally made it?
The card makes me that the artist is a nature lover because that is what it is mainly focused on.

    5. Is the card well made? Does it show a high degree of skill, design, and beauty? What evidence do you see that supports your answer?
I think this card was made well because it has a lot of detail, you can tell what it is about, and that it is very nice. It has lots of detail and requires a lot of skill because it has lots of different features and has many different pictures in it.

    6. Share your experience making a card and trading it with an unknown artist. What was your favorite part? What was challenging?
My favorite part was that I get to see someone else’s art that is always different and you get to share it with someone. Yes, making an ATC was complicated, but was very fun to make.
